Project Description
The Visual Space and Inventory Management System alinga
for Libraries
alinga is a visual space and inventory management system. Our software enables libraries, among other things, to plan upcoming relocations interactively, automatically calculate space requirements, virtually test different shelving layouts, and then implement the changes in practice – making relocation easier than ever.
We support libraries in consolidating multiple locations. Beyond space planning, alinga is also used for collection development and rearrangement.
How many shelves are needed to relabel an entire collection according to the Regensburg Classification System (RVK) while making optimal use of available space? How can space shortages or even impending overcrowding be identified and prevented at an early stage?
alinga provides the answers to these questions.
Managing Your Collections Has Never Been Easier
Plan Your Rearrangements and Relocation Visually and Playfully!
How Does alinga Work?
A typical use case for alinga is the consolidation of collections from different locations.
How does alinga approach this process?
- Import all data from the library catalogue
- Extract relevant data using a variety of filtering options
- Automatically identify and sort call numbers
- Create the foundation for consolidating collections from different locations

The collections created can now be placed on the previously prepared library floor plan using a graphical interface. Various parameters are available, including aisle direction, shelving density (volumes per shelf) and shelf occupancy (in %). Collections can also be arranged based on measured linear shelf space.
Using logical groups makes placement quick and efficient. Create different scenarios for your desired layout and easily test whether your plan will work in practice! Naturally, all layout variants can also be exported in high resolution for printing, archiving or presentation purposes.
Once you have decided on a layout, shelf labels are generated via an interface to the Regensburg Classification System (RVK).
The labels can be applied immediately and are guaranteed to be the correct size, as the system knows the dimensions of the shelves.
